This page explains which data comes up when you visit this website and what happens to it. In short: no ads, no tracking services from other companies, no cookies for visitors.

Hosting and server log files
The website is hosted by Spaceship, Inc., 4600 East Washington Street, Suite 300, Phoenix, AZ 85034, USA. The servers are in the USA (Phoenix, Arizona). Spaceship processes the data on my behalf under its Data Processing Addendum; the transfer to the USA is covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 (2) (c) GDPR). With every request, the server automatically stores technical information in log files: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer URL, browser and operating system. This is needed to run the website securely and reliably (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). The data is not combined with other data and is deleted after a short time.
Visitor statistics
To see which pages are read, I use Exposure Meter, a WordPress plugin I wrote myself. It runs on the same server as the website and sets no cookies. Your IP address is never stored: it is shortened at once (for IPv4 the last number is set to 0, for IPv6 only the network part is kept). The service ip-api.com (USA) looks up the country from the shortened address; nothing more than the shortened address is sent there. To tell returning visits apart, a value that cannot be traced back (a hash) is made from the shortened address and the browser identifier, and it changes every day. The page visited, the referring page, device type, browser and operating system are stored too. Entries are deleted after one year. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in simple audience measurement (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).
Security
A security plugin (All-In-One Security) protects the website against attacks. For failed login attempts or suspicious requests it stores the IP address and time, so attackers can be blocked (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). These entries are deleted regularly.
Cookies and fonts
No cookies are set while you read the website. WordPress sets cookies only when someone logs in to the admin area. The fonts are stored on this server; nothing is loaded from Google or other font services.
Links to other services
The website links to Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, Vimeo, Bandcamp, Discogs and others. Videos and posts are not embedded: only when you click a link do you leave this website, and the privacy policy of that service applies.
Contact by email
If you write to me, I use your details only to answer your request (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR) and do not pass them on without your consent. My mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail).
Encryption
The connection to the website is encrypted with TLS (you can tell by “https://” in the address bar).
Your rights
You have the right to information about the data I hold about you, to correction, deletion and restriction of processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Just send me an email. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in Berlin, that is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
